I'm Janet Sellers. I'm an artist for home, office
and public settings - my work is varied, with winsome, energizing or relaxing vistas and colors. I'm the one who takes away
your blank wall and I put in the window of color for your world. My work puts the freedom back into your day and your imagination
with color and energizing, outdoorsy pictures.
The pigment and acrylic on canvas works are
my unique blend of photography and painting montage. The photo portals a "reality" and the painterly additions carry you to
the dreamway of the painting.
In the watercolors, I reveal rapid brushstrokes and intense color experiences.
".... and as for the small watercolors, they
are my color haiku: the rapidly made brushstrokes with simple colors reveal a visual moment of living, seeing... and human
vitality"

From Laguna Beach and the Pacific Coast, to the
Colorado Rockies, welcome the growing national and international presence of Janet Sellers' works of Fine Art.
"I
work mainly in the greater west, from Colorado to Hawaii and the great Pacific.....I am probably one of the few artists actually
born in Laguna Beach, with its fresh, ocean air, and I enjoy including that vitality in my work. There is always a fresh feeling
about the colors and the composition because of the energy in my paintings, it is integrated throughout, and each color layer
interacts with the others.
My work is expressive of light and color. In the mountains, the
morning and evening light lasts a very long time. The light and color change is very gradual, and allows me to paint and develop
the palette. Then, immortalized on the canvas, the colors reveal themselves, changing as light actually moves through the
painting itself, and back out again to the surface of the oil paintings or the acrylic paintings. It's a kind of life force
for the art.

I make my art now in both Colorado and in
Laguna Beach, acually along the whole Pacific Coast up to Carmel and beyond. San Francisco is also a favorite place of mine.
I have close family near my Colorado and California studios and galleries. My big murals in Los Angeles are a part of the
colossal mural movement, now a California historical treasure visited by thousands every year. I am so glad so many can view
these works in perpetuity.
"... I do think my glazing technique is an art
form few are willing to work to attain in terms of imagination and technical skill. Each painting can have 20 or even up to
100 layers of color and glazes- a lot of attention for one canvas. Working in opaques and transparencies reflects the complexity
in the painting, and offers superb fidelity in the prints as well.

".....Sometimes I think of the simplicity of
Japanese calligraphy or sumi painting, and the thought is so pure, so simple, and so full of meaning that I may pour over
the image many times to savor it.
"..... Once, while living in Japan, I had the opportunity to live at a museum campus
and "visit" the art every day. Some of the sumi paintings by a Zen priest made no sense to me and were deceptively simple...
one day, suddenly, I saw the sweet flag iris in the blot of ink, and voila! The complicated came from the simple. "
